Tattoo sleeves and back pieces
A sleeve or a back piece gets planned as one design from day one, then tattooed across a run of sessions.

Tommy Solace has done full sleeves and full back pieces in black and grey and in color. Joey Malia does black and grey realism sleeves, leg sleeves included. Big canvas is where both of them go hardest.
How big projects get planned
From Tommy's own booking FAQ: a full sleeve, back, torso or leg typically runs five to eight full days, and a half sleeve two to three full sessions. Every large project ends with a finishing session for final details, contrast, blending and the white highlights. Every project is different, so treat that as a starting point, not a quote.
Joey prices by the session, $2,000 to $2,200 per Joey's request form, and big projects take more than one.

Questions
Do I need to plan the whole sleeve up front?
Ideally, yes. A sleeve reads best when everything flows together. Pitch the whole idea in your first request.
Can you finish a sleeve someone else started?
Often. Send photos of what's there and the artist will tell you how they'd carry it.
