Tommy Solace
Tattooer, rapper, festival starter, Kankakee through and through. Tommy Solace (Tommy Solis) has 20 years of tattooing behind him. He co-founded Downtown Tattoo, a walk-in shop downtown, then built Art and Sol as the opposite: private, calmer, personal. In October 2026, Tommy and co-owner Joey Malia opened the Crown Point studio.

“Be like Q, get big cool horror tattoos.”Tommy, on Facebook
The range is wide on purpose: black and grey realism, vivid color, illustrative pieces, portraits, custom script, freehand and cover-ups. Most of his pieces get designed on the day, with you in the chair next to him: drawing, pulling references, sizing, stenciling, placing. He keeps a list of Want To Do's, designs he is itching to tattoo, usually at a discount.
Off the clock he writes and performs with Ill State and Luck of the Draw (one Ill State track is literally called Ink My Whole Body). In 2021 he helped start Kankakee's Estival Festival, which turned into C.I.R.K.A., the Collaborative Initiative to Revive Kankakee's Arts: Estival, Teen Talent Takeover and April Grooves Day.
